The Pukeko’s Foot
There’s a very special reason for the unique nickname this house has been christened with. When you gaze upwards in the living room corner of this stylish, split-level weatherboard home, you’ll see exposed rafters at an unusual cross-section of angles that can’t help but remind you of a pukeko’s foot.
And we believe it was this complex, never-been-done-before structural roof connection that helped earn it a Gold award at the 2018 Master Builder awards in the Nulook New Home $700,000 - 1 million category. The elevated views and split level floor plan created an interesting challenge that required a unique roof engineering solution and a lot of planning with engineers, architect Alistair Watt and ourselves to pull it off.
In fact, the distinctive way in which this roof came together is so unusual, the technique has never been done before in the history of the building industry. And while it was certainly a challenge, we rose to the occasion as our ethos is crafting quality homes that are specifically designed to suit our clients land as well as their families lifestyle.
That’s why you won’t ever see a carbon copy of a Maddren home as your neighbour. It’s immensely satisfying to overcome a challenge such as this and the proof really is in the pudding with the gold award and happy owners who were wrapped with getting the home of their dreams.
